Slashdot, SourceForge & Freecode have been acquired by Dice Holdings, Inc.

Geeknet, Inc. has sold its online media business, including Slashdot, SourceForge and Freecode, to Dice Holdings, Inc. (Dice), a leading provider of specialized career websites, for US$20 million.

Slashdot is a user-generated news, analysis, peer question and professional insight community. SourceForge is a destination for technology professionals and enthusiasts to develop, download, review and publish open source software, much of which they use in their own organizations. Freecode is one of the largest indexes of Linux, Unix and cross-platform software, as well as mobile applications.

Dice Holdings, Inc. is a leading provider of specialized websites for professional communities, including technology and engineering, financial services, energy, healthcare and security clearance. This acquisition builds on its rich history in providing the best content to help technology professionals succeed in their careers and reinforces the company's commitment to deliver unique and valuable information to foster engagement in each of its communities.

Geeknet, Inc., through its subsidiaries, operates as an online retailer for the global geek community in the United States. It operates through two segments, website and wholesale. The company sells collectibles, apparel, gadgets, electronics, toys, and other retail products for technology enthusiasts and general consumers through its ThinkGeek.com Website, as well as certain products to its wholesale channel customers. It also distributes video game-themed merchandise for the gaming community through web-stores; and sells theme-based products to brick-and-mortar retailers.
