Managing Partner
João is a managing partner and co-founder of Oaklins Portugal. He has more than 20 years’ experience in financial advisory, M&A and financial restructuring. He has advised clients in a variety of industries, notably in renewable energy and infrastructure, chemicals, building materials, automotive, industrial machinery and equipment, distribution and retail, publishing, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, business services and IT. Key clients he has advised include FEPI, Iberis Capital, Ascendum, LeYa, Sugal, Lusiaves, RAR, Explorer, ActiveCap, Atena and Sanindusa. Recent transactions include the shareholder restructuring of Sanindusa, a leading Portuguese sanitary equipment group, with the private equity firm Iberis Capital; the acquisition of Tabacos Farinha and Joaquim Guimarães by FEPI, a distributor of tobacco and wine; the buy-out of LeYa Group, one of the main educational publishers in Portugal and postgraduate e-learning companies in Brazil, by private equity fund Atena Capital Partners together with the group’s management team; the MBO of Joalpe, a plastic injection company focused on shopping baskets and retail store displays; the fundraising for Termoflorestal, a greenfield forest waste thermoelectric power plant; the acquisition of a majority stake in Internacional Tabacos and FEPI, both tobacco distribution companies; and the fundraising for CQC, a C2B marketplace platform.
Prior to founding Oaklins Portugal, João was a founding partner at ASK Group, a Portuguese investment banking firm, where he spent 11 years as head of the corporate finance department. Previously, he worked in international and national investment banks. He started his career at BNP Paribas. João has a degree in business management from ISCTE in Lisbon, Portugal.
