The HR sector: Current trends in M&A
Human Resources, The Netherlands | Report | March 2023
Dealmaking in the HR sector in the Netherlands reached an all time high in 2022, indicating that even during uncertain times, M&A activity remains strong.
After a slight decline in M&A activity in 2020, HR M&A activity in the Netherlands significantly recovered in both 2021 and 2022, as can be read in our report.
M&A activity in the Netherlands
2022 shows a record number of transactions in the HR market in the Netherlands, partly driven by the growing employment supply-demand gap which has significantly increased demand for employment services. For 2023, the HR market is on the cusp of continued expansion, with a surge in transactions expected as consolidation gathers momentum.
When looking in further detail to 2022, the majority (77%) of the transactions represent (PE-backed) strategic deals, what we also observe in practice. As strategic companies are looking to acquire new talent, increase scale and expand their service offering (internationally), this sector will continue to be a major draw for investors, attracting high levels of interest.
